“Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.”
John Lennon composed a song in 1980 for his son to explain this simple truth. And no career demonstrates the wisdom of these lyrics more than that of Greg Simmons of First Savings Mortgage Corporation.
You see, Greg knew his destiny was to be a sports journalist. He attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, graduating in 2001 with a BA in English and having completed a successful sports journalism internship. While job hunting in his chosen field, he answered the call for a temporary worker at First Savings. ‘Life’ happened and he has never looked back.
Greg has been in the mortgage industry since 2001 and has spent his entire career with First Savings Mortgage Corporation, the metropolitan area’s largest private mortgage lender. First Savings’ loan products are only available through its loan officers and the company is totally focused on residential lending. Greg started in the post-closing department, then moved to the processing/underwriting department, worked as an assistant/originator from 2006 to 2014, and is now a loan officer specializing in conventional, FHA, VA, and jumbo residential mortgage loans, home purchases and refinancings. He is licensed to lend in Virginia, the District of Colombia, Maryland, and North Carolina.
First Savings encourages its loan officers to model its value of making the community a better place to live. Greg is an active member of the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce and the Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce as well as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. Heroes Home Advantage, which allows Greg to give a closing cost discount to the heroes who give so much to our country and our communities, including Military, Law Enforcement, Firefighters, Teachers, Health Care Providers, and First Responders, is a First Savings program Greg especially champions.
Greg believes his hands-on experience in every department of First Savings helps him explain and expedite the loan process inside First Savings more effectively to every client. But he has never lost his love for sports from Fantasy Football to championing his children’s sports involvement. In his career he has truly heeded the advice of sports great and unique American humorist, Yogi Berra: “When you come to a fork in the road, take it.”
Lisa Brill is the marketing face of Value Blinds and Heirloom Draperies. She came to this local Loudoun business after a very successful career as an Area Sales Manager with window treatment industry heavyweight Hunter Douglas.
Lisa loves a challenge. She relishes the prospecting phase of sales and prides herself on successfully opening new accounts among builders, decorators and homeowners. She approaches her role with an entrepreneurial spirit which she feels is the key to her success.
Value Blinds boasts an amazing selection of window solutions, talented design consultants and a hands-on approach to customer service from concept to installation. They will even install temporary shades at every window in new construction to protect their clients’ privacy while waiting for on-order custom treatments to be installed. Special touches such as temporary shades reflect the customer focus that Lisa champions in her marketing role.
As a trained interior designer, Lisa has a great eye for color and shape which even translates to one of her many passions — cultivating more than 30 orchids. She loves to cook as well and she views the culinary arts as a great outlet for her creative spirit.
Lovettsville residents Lisa and her husband keep horses on their property, spend significant time with their grandchildren, haunt flea markets and yard sales for great finds and spend time in coastal North Carolina where they have a retreat lovingly furnished with their flea market and yard sale prizes.
Lisa also enjoys being active and staying fit. She practices yoga, is an avid water skier and an experienced water skiing instructor. To say that Lisa is a high energy, high-performing marketing professional would be an understatement!
Lisa’s love of variety and adventure does not stop with her many interests. She has traveled the world, including the former Soviet Union long before such a trip became commonplace for Americans. Her 2016 travel plans included Ireland and she traveled with her oldest granddaughter.
This young grandmother has often contemplated starting her own business but her challenge would be trying to pick just one business area given her many passions. Besides, she is a great fit with Value Blinds where she has a strong team, a supportive owner, deep industry experience and an enviable reputation.
